This web site is operated by the Edinburgh Community Technology Academy (ECTA) as described below. We aim to provide a safe, secure user experience for all customers, job hunters, recruiters and employers. We are committed to protecting the privacy of all of our customers. The purpose of this policy is to let you know how we will use any personal data which you provide to us through this web site. This does not apply to information we might have collected in any other fashion.

ECTA, under the auspices of the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce, is registered with Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) as a Data Controller (Registration Number: Z6988183) and complies with all data protection legislation. The ICO regulates the processing of information relating to you and grants you various rights in respect of your personal data. We are not responsible for the privacy policies or practices of any other website which you may link to from our own. This Privacy Policy applies solely to the information we collect.

In using this website we assume that you have read and understood this Policy.

Collection and Retention of Information

We use your IP address in our web stats software. This allows used to gather broad demographic information, and for other purposes such as monitoring visitor frequency.

Our site’s Training Application Forms require you to provide contact information (including name, email, and postal address). This information is used only for correspondence between ECTA and you. We will never pass on or sell your details to any third party.

The aim of our Candidates Database is to supply information on individual job hunters to potential Employers or Recruiters. To enable this ECTA requests that you provide personal data, including your name, address, e-mail address, telephone number, contact information, other information from which your identity is discernible.

Use of Your Information by ECTA

We use the information we gather on the web site whether personal, demographic, collective or technical, for the purposes of administering and managing your registration, responding to any queries you may have, operating and improving the web site, fostering a positive user experience and delivering the products and services that we offer to jobseekers and employers.

If you have opted-in for occasional news emails when registering for Training or Candidates Database services with ECTA, we may use your contact information in order to send you e-mail or other communications regarding updates at the web site, new training course opportunities and additional ECTA news which may be of interest to you. You can unsubscribe from email news updates at any time.

We may have areas where you can contact us and submit feedback. We may use such feedback (such as success stories) for promotional purposes or to contact you for further information.

Disclosure of Information to Others

We do not disclose to third parties your personal information, combined personal and demographic information or information about your use of the web site (such as the areas you visit or the services you access), except as set forth below.

1. We may disclose such information to third parties if you consent to such disclosure. For example, if you make your CV available to potential Employers or Recruiters, then all parties with access to our bank of CVs (or copies thereof) will have access to that information. You may make your CV hidden at any time by indicating in writing that to ECTA. 2. We may disclose such information if legally required to do so, if requested to do so by a governmental entity or regulatory authority or if we believe in good faith that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to legal requirements or comply with legal process; (b) protect the rights or property of ECTA; (c) prevent a crime or protect national security; or (d) protect the personal safety of users or the public. 3. We may disclose and transfer such information to a third party who acquires all or a substantial portion of ECTA’s business, whether such acquisition is by way of merger, consolidation or purchase of all or a substantial portion of our assets. In addition, in the event ECTA becomes the subject of an insolvency proceeding, whether voluntary or involuntary, ECTA or its liquidator, administrator, receiver or administrative receiver may sell, license or otherwise dispose of such information in a transaction approved by the court. You will be notified of sale of all or a substantial portion of our business to a third party by email or through a prominent notice posted on the ECTA web site.

It is our policy to only disclose information to third parties under the following circumstances:

  • As required by law.

  • When explicitly requested by a visitor.

  • When required to deliver products or services requested by a subscriber.

We share aggregate, non-personally identifiable information about our users with advertisers, business partners, sponsors, and other third parties. Subject to the above three circumstances, we do not provide any identifiable personal information to any third party for any purpose whatsoever. For example, we may tell a business partner the number of men and the number of women that entered a competition, but we do not disclose anything that could be used to identify those individuals. Access by our employees and agents to your personally identifiable information are only on a need to know basis on the understanding that this is confidential business information.

Our intention is never to use or share personally identifiable information provided to us in ways that are different than the ways described above without also providing you with an opportunity to “unsubscribe” or prohibit such unrelated uses.
