Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)

The widely respected Cisco Career Certifications bring valuable, measurable rewards to network professionals, their managers, and the organizations that employ them.

The CCNA indicates a foundation in and apprentice knowledge of networking. CCNA certified professionals can install, configure, and operate LAN, WAN, and dial access services for small networks (100 nodes or fewer), including but not limited to use of these protocols: IP, RIP, EIGRP, OSPF, Serial, Frame Relay, VLANs, Ethernet, Access Lists.

Course description

This course helps you prepare for CCNA certification.

You will learn decision-making and problem solving techniques in the application of science, mathematics and communication to solve networking problems.

Through hands on activities and labs, you will learn to install and configure Cisco switches and routers in multi-protocol networks using local and wide area networks (LAN/WAN), provide level 1 troubleshooting service, and improve network performance and security.

Your acquired competencies include:

  • Install and configure Cisco Routers and Switches.
  • Setup, configure, and maintain a LAN/WAN.
  • Implement, maintain and troubleshoot network infrastructure.
  • Improve network performance and security.

Course Delivery

This course has been designed as a 280-hour curriculum and is delivered on a part-time basis with two full classroom and lab based days per week.

The course will cover the first two semesters in class over six months, with the remaining two semesters delivered by blended distance learning once in the work place.

During the course, you’ll have access to official Cisco online learning resources and assessment tools, study guides, and lab equipment, as well as instructor support and career guidance.

The programme is delivered at Net Resources Academy.

CCNA is part of The Cisco Networking Academy Program, a comprehensive e-learning program, which provides students with the Internet technology skills essential in a global economy. The Academy program delivers Web-based content, online assessment, student performance tracking, hands-on labs, instructor training and support, and preparation for industry standard certifications.

Eligibility

Due to the level of this qualification, it is required that individuals have qualifications in one or more of the following areas: NC Computing, HNC/HND Computing or related discipline, CompTIA A+, or degree level educated.

Individuals must be registered unemployed and living in Edinburgh.

Preference will be given to applicants who have not received Training for Work or New Deal funded training in the past, and those who can demonstrate regular job seeking activity.
